What ‘the possibility of being extraordinary’ means to Clare Robinson #TPOBE

Two major things are happening this February. Firstly, it’s the time for growth & development plans for everyone at TCO so people are reflecting on the year past and setting up their ambitions for the year to come. Secondly, it’s the month of Feb-fast (cutting out alcohol, sugar & caffeine from the diet!), for me and lots of others across Australia. So you see it’s a time when both myself and others across the business need that little bit of inspiration that they can make positive change happen, start new behaviours and reach for the stars in terms of acting on things they have always wanted to do but never quite got round to.

So here it is. A practical way to kick things off. A TED talk from Matt Cutts about how ‘trying something new for 30 days’ could just change your life.

Try something new for 30 days by Matt Cutts

It’s a tale of putting into action something you have always wanted to do or change. It promises that if you start this journey & commit to it for 30 days, that will be long enough to put a new behaviour or habit into play. I love his line about the fact that the ‘next 30 day will happen whether you like it or not!’ It’s a rallying cry to get present & focused, put a plan in place and stick to it. He does say making small changes are more sustainable but I say aim big. Do the thing you thought you could never achieve there’s no time like the present!

My other advice as we shared this talk with the agency was to share your 30 day ambition with others. By stating your intent to a public audience ou are more motivated to stick to it. We also believe that when you put things out there in the universe they have a way of coming true.

So I’m signing off for now having committed the fact that I’m on ‘Feb Fast’ for the next 30 days. I’m 6 days in so make sure you ask me how I’m doing, it could just be that extra bit of motivation I need!
