For those who don’t know me I’m not usually the type of person who enjoys jumping in ice baths, crawling through mud, whilst clambering over obstacles. But…. that’s precisely what I did as I competed in the inaugural valley stampede last weekend.

Having just passed a fairly significant birthday, I have made the conscious decision to embrace things that scare me. So this is why, last Saturday morning, I dressed in my most unflattering get up (including a rather fetching shower cap), left my reservations and feelings of self preservation at the start line and hurdled (rather ungracefully I might add) across bull fields and waded through 5 foot mud pits.

And I have to confess, I loved every minute of it.

Now I know I am never going to give Bear Grills a run for his money, but I have learnt that it’s often the first hurdle that stands in our way of success.

In this industry we are all guilty of putting things in the too hard basket, or feeling overwhelmed when presented with a real challenge, but in actual fact these are the things we should relish as not only do they help us create the most innovative work but also give us a deeper sense of personal satisfaction at the end.

And my goodness, never has a cold beer tasted so damn good!!
