So my expectations around seeing Dolly Parton this week at the Allphones arena were pretty low. ’9 to 5′ was pretty much the only song on my radar & I was curious about the plastic surgeries but, what I wasn’t expecting, was a truly inspirational performance.
Dolly’s interaction with the crowd, her ability to wear her heart on her sleeve and be comfortable in her, what she calls ‘white-trash-skin’, was really humbling, entertaining and above all else fun! She is also clearly a spiritual lady who spreads a message of positivity and ‘what you get out of life is what you put in!’
I think we can all take a lesson out of Dolly’s book in this advertising world we live in. We should stay grounded and keep connected & on the same level as our ‘fans’. What do I mean by that? We need to understand and talk the same language as the people out there that we try and connect brands to through the communications work we do. If what we are producing feels like bu*(-sh&t to us then it probably does to consumers.
Quite frankly, I’m now off to get myself Dolly Parton’s latest album ‘Better Day’ and you should to, go on you know you want to!
Thanks to the gorgeous Nestle clients for coming along and supplying the pictures in this post.
